We've heard every excuse about not wanting to make videos - from camera shyness to social media struggles. While these concerns are legitimate, your potential patients and staff still want to see who you are through video content.

I Don't Want to Make Ketamine Therapy Videos

Ugh, I hate being on camera. Nobody likes my clinic's social media posts. My Instagram account keeps getting flagged for breaking community guidelines! We've heard it all. All of these excuses (and yes, they are excuses) are legitimate. We've personally dealt with them. But while you feel this way and have these concerns, your potential patients and potential staff want to see videos. Why? We'll get to that shortly.

In this blog, we're going to share what we've learned since opening our ketamine infusion clinic in 2018 as we've created video content for our clinic. We're going to cover the "what" kind of videos to make, the "how" to make videos, and most importantly, the "why."

And we're going to cut to the chase: If you don't understand why this is important, you won't buy into the what and how. So that's where we'll start.

Video content isn't about becoming famous - it's about human connection. In an age where AI can provide all the facts about ketamine therapy, patients need to see who you are, that you care, and that you're authentic before choosing your clinic.

Why Your Ketamine Clinic Needs Video Content

We have a small child, and as you know how kids are, they love to ask "why." We don't grow out of this. If we're asking our kid to do something, effectively answering her why is ultimately what gets her to do it. "Why should I brush my teeth?" Because you don't want cavities. Brushing your teeth makes them pearly white. Because I said so and it's becoming industry standard.

Okay, so maybe not the last bit, but the last bit is true for our industry. And well, any business that wants to attract people and convert them into buyers.

So why should you make video content for your ketamine clinic? Video content is effective in sharing who YOU are and WHY they should come to you. But we're not talking about sales videos. We're talking about you demonstrating why your service is valuable to them through educating, entertaining, and inspiring them (more on that in the next section).

We are in a new information age where internet searching and AI agents can tell a potential patient everything they need to know about the facts of getting ketamine therapy. So it's not just information they need, it's human connection. It's knowing you 1) exist via creating consistent content (videos in this case), 2) care by creating relevant content, and 3) are authentic.

By being authentic while creating consistent and relevant video content, the potential patient gets to know who you and your clinic are. And they are drawn to you versus you convincing them. You don't want to convince people to do ketamine therapy, but rather show you exist, care, and are authentically you so that when there is someone out there who wants ketamine therapy or wants to refer a patient to ketamine therapy, they find you and see you are a good fit for them or their patient.

Yes, that's right. Your videos aren't only for your potential patients, but also for potential referring providers and even potential staff. People you could be working with are also online, and when they encounter your content, they will either be interested in working with you (great!) or not (even better!).

So to bottom line it: Why you need to be making video content (short clips or long-form videos) is because it is an effective means of attracting patients and people to work with you, especially when it's authentic, relevant and consistent content.

Which brings us to our next logical point.

Skip the sales videos and focus on content that educates, entertains, and inspires. From FAQ videos to sharing your personal interests, the goal is attracting patients who are the best fit for your clinic through authentic, relevant content.

What Kind of Videos Do I Make for My Ketamine Clinic

In the prior section, we mentioned don't make sales videos, so what do you make instead? This is really important to make this distinction, and that is why we are going to take time in this section to clarify it. Videos that educate, entertain, and inspire. These three aspects are important honestly for any business or even if you want to pivot and become an online influencer! So to take it one step further, you have to remember as you create this inspiring, entertaining, educational video content: the point of your video is to get the patient who would be best served by you into your clinic. In other words, it's relevant to you and ketamine therapy.

So yes, you can make viral and entertaining videos that go viral, but remember your goal isn't likes and new followers. It is to signal to the potential patient who is in your town or willing to drive to your city to get ketamine therapy from you instead of somebody else that you know your stuff and will treat them with empathy, kindness, and professionalism.

These videos can stand on their own as inspiring, entertaining or educational content. They are not in themselves a sales video.

We're going to assume you're on board, so what kinds of videos to make? Here are some ideas to get you going:

  • Frequently asked questions - from indications, contraindications, and how to prepare

  • Why you started a clinic or how you got into this field

  • Treatment details - how long the therapy takes, what to expect after treatment

  • Topics you are interested in - sports, books, hobbies, etc. (extra points if you can weave it into the philosophy of how you provide ketamine therapy or use it to illustrate a point regarding the healing process)

Creating clinic videos doesn't require expensive equipment or perfect lighting. Our simple 5-step process works with just your smartphone and focuses on consistency over perfection to build trust with potential patients.

How Do I Make Videos for My Ketamine Clinic

Having made videos for our clinic since 2018 with a growing YouTube channel, we've identified the video-making process into 5 steps. You start with these 5 steps and then adapt to fit your needs, styles, and ultimately what you are willing to do! Sure, you can spend lots of money making professional-level videos with perfect lighting and beautifully scripted content, but doing all that doesn't guarantee more patients.

The 5 steps are simple and can be done with your smartphone, laptop, plus or minus recruiting your Gen Z niece or aspiring video editor son to do the post-production.

Let's jump into each step.

Step 1: ID What Works

Look at videos you've enjoyed, saved, or shared with friends or family. What are some videos you found you enjoyed? This is going beyond just making videos for the FAQs and other items we mentioned in the prior section. Perhaps this is where you adapt a viral meme or video template to relevant content for your clinic. So next time you find yourself on the couch scrolling through your favorite social media platform, if you see something that makes you stop scrolling, laugh or want to share, ask yourself, "How could I make something like this for my clinic?"

Which brings us to the next step.

Step 2: Model

Now look at the videos you liked and see how you can adapt them to fit your goals. Maybe there is someone you follow online or videos you enjoy. Are they talking straight into the camera? Are they writing on a whiteboard as they talk? Are they sharing thoughts while on a walk?

Continuing to use the parent and child metaphor from earlier to get our kid to brush her teeth, our kids model our behavior as a means of understanding and functioning in this world. So as you first start out creating videos, model what you see being done.

It's easier to model what you see being done than having you go through a checklist of things when prepping and shooting a video. The idea is getting into the habit of creating videos, especially as you first start out. So keep it simple, model what works.

Step 3: Make the Video

Take what you learned from step 2 and either make a script or a few bullet points. The key to this step (and honestly all the steps) is to not overthink this and just do it. Then film it on your smartphone. Don't waste time getting a camera. Often your iPhone will take a better video than an expensive but older camera. Just do it.

Use your hand and put the camera on the "selfie" mode and film, or get an inexpensive tripod, or get creative like we did here in this photo below.

No fancy equipment? No problem. Sometimes the best video setups are the most creative ones. This DIY water bottle tripod proves you can start making content with whatever you have on hand.

Now to edit it. You can hire someone, ask a tech-savvy youngster to teach you, or play with some software yourself.

If you are of the DIY persuasion, you can play with editing in a low-cost way by using the free trial version of Descript, which allows you to edit videos like you edit a Word doc. Or you can use Canva's free version, which now has some limited but simple video editing capability.

Don't overthink the editing, and you don't need it to be super fancy. Remember, you are starting out.

Step 4: Post It

Put the video on your website and social media (especially YouTube) - This is a big one. You need to put it up and post it. Remember, this isn't about becoming a famous YouTuber. This isn't about getting likes. It is about being findable. It's about answering the questions your potential patients have when they are looking for a ketamine clinic near them.

Step 5: Evaluate

How did it do? What didn't work? What did work? Did you promote it in the stories? If you don't have a lot of followers, you may not get many likes, comments or shares. Sometimes the mythical algorithm throws you the proverbial bone and your video goes viral.

So if you didn't get much traction, rather do an internal eval. How did it feel to post? Did good old "imposter syndrome" rear its ugly head? Did more ideas for other videos come up?

Sometimes when we get overwhelmed by it all, the idea of being a healthcare provider and business owner and then you have to perform on videos to market your clinic! Eek, it feels like too much. Go back to your why and the point of all this. Your why is what got you into this place of having a ketamine clinic or providing ketamine therapy. Then the point of all this, the point of making videos and other forms of content, is to inform potential patients and let them know you exist.

We know you are dedicated to transforming mental health and the lives of your patients, but if no one knows you exist, then you are essentially non-existent.

Your video content acts like business vital signs that potential patients evaluate. Consistent, helpful content shows a healthy practice, while sporadic or missing content can signal trouble to those researching your clinic.

Potential Patients Are Going To Check Your Pulse

Why do all this, right? Why go through this process or hire someone to help you with it? Why pour time, energy and money into this endeavor of creating informational and educational content instead of throwing money into ads?

When a potential patient is looking to start ketamine therapy or find a new ketamine therapy specialist, they are going to assess you, just like you assess the vitals on your patient. Think of this content for your website and posting on social media as a business vital sign, in particular heart rate.

  • Normal sinus rhythm - Consistent, engaging, helpful content that demonstrates you and your clinic understand their needs and concerns

  • Sick sinus syndrome/bradycardia - Videos inconsistently posted or content that comes across as inauthentic

  • Flatline/dead - No content at all, which can signal a struggling business

And we bet you know where this is going. Marketing and content creation are the first things to go when a business isn't doing well.

So what does that healthy, consistent, normal sinus rhythm content look like? It's relevant content that shares who YOU are and WHY they should come to you via educating, entertaining, and inspiring, posted on a regular basis.

If you Google or ask ChatGPT how often you should post on social media, the answers you get would probably turn you away from making any videos. But remember your goals and intentions. You aren't trying to become a ketamine therapy influencer (or maybe you are), but if you're simply working to attract patients who are a good fit for your practice, quality over quantity matters.

To do this well and authentically, you're in it for the long haul. So if that means once a week, that's fine. Then growing to 2 to 3 times a week as you become more comfortable, wonderful! Consistency beats high volume every time.

Final Thoughts: Your Expertise Needs To Be on Video

A common concern we see with individuals starting out in this space is that they say they have nothing new to say. There are already FAQ videos or meditation videos. There's content out there already, so "I have nothing new to say."

But while that may be true, there isn't another you out there. Your way of explaining ketamine therapy, your analogies and stories, your approach to discussing the healing journey through golf or gardening - that's uniquely yours.

Picture this: A potential patient has read blogs with patient testimonials and watched YouTube videos about how ketamine works. They're unsure and hesitant, yet could be wonderfully served by this treatment. Then they come across your video - the one where the lighting was bad and you said one too many "ums." Suddenly, they feel seen, acknowledged, and understood. They trust you and finally find the courage to call your clinic.

That scenario never happens if you don't make the video. Instead of worrying "what will people think," focus on speaking to that one person whose life you can really change. So get out there and start making videos!

We typically do two infusions per week for the first two weeks, followed by one per week for the next two weeks, for a total of six. This allows flexibility without compromising effectiveness.
